You, a human being, who possess an animal’s mind, please listen to my song’.

‘The source of all our problems is our delusions such as attachment. Since beginningless time, because we have been so attached to the fulfillment of our own wishes, we have performed various kinds of non-virtuous actions – actions that harm others. As a result we continually experience various kinds of suffering and miserable conditions in life after life without end. When our wishes are not fulfilled we usually experience unpleasant feelings, such as unhappiness or depression; this is our own problem because we are so attached to the fulfillment of our wishes’.

Bliss

“If you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. Follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.”
― Joseph Campbell

I exist, therefore I am

‘Let’s suppose that you were able every night to dream any dream you wanted to dream, and you would naturally as you began on this adventure of dreams, you would fulfil all your wishes. You would have every kind of pleasure, you see, and after several nights you would say, well that was pretty great, but now let’s have a surprise, let’s have a dream which isn’t under control. Well something is going to happen to me that I don’t know what it’s gonna be. Then you would get more and more adventurous, and you would make further and further out gambles as to what you would dream, and finally you would dream where you are now.

If you awaken this illusion and you understand that black implies white, self implies other, life implies death, you can feel yourself not as a stranger in the world, not as something here on occasion, not as something that has arrived here by flu but you can begin to feel your own existence as absolutely fundamental.

What you are basically, deep deep down, far far in, is simply the fabric and structure of existence itself.’ – Alan Watts

Schopenhauer on human existence

‘In my 17th year, I was gripped by the misery of life, as Buddha had been in his youth when he saw sickness, old age, pain and death. The truth was that this world could not have been the work of an all loving Being, but rather that of a devil, who had brought creatures into existence in order to delight in their sufferings.’

– Arthur Schopenhauer
